  2. What quotes can you use to show that this source appears to disagree with the hypothesis?

  3. You may wish to analyse the phrase "pushed that door". What might the word 'push' imply? What actions or aspects of the suffragettes is the author probably referring to here? What actions did the Princess do to help push the door? Does this tell the whole story? Are there other, less abrasive actions that should also be considered? Did the Princess only 'push'? Perhaps she helped in other ways?

  4. You may wish to analyse the phrase "no appetite" for giving women the vote? who had no appetite for it? Why was there no appetite What does the phrase appetite suggest? Does it mean female suffrage was unpleasant? Does it mean it was too much? something else? Is it true to suggest there was no appetite?

  5. You may wish to analyse the last sentence; "it was down to...these...very brave women". Which women are being refereed to here? How significant do you believe their impact was? It is fair to attribute success to these women alone? Who or what else offered a significant contribution to giving women the vote?

  6. You may wish to analysis the phrase "brave" in the context of this specific example. Was the Princess really putting herself at risk? Is her situation the same as other campaigners?

  7. Consider the author's interest in Anglo/Asian relations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Anand#Early_life_and_education): How might this affect what she sets out to achieve in the book? Will she be selective in the evidence she uses to support her aims for the book? What type of evidence is she likely to focus on? What type of evidence is she likely to leave out? How reliable does this make her judgments on the Suffragettes and the Princess?

  8. Anand tries to make the story of the Suffragettes fit within a wider context of international protest. For example, comparisons and connections are made with the growing demands for Indian independence. How might this affect the purpose and reliability of the book?
